Public Art in Developments

Esplanade Artwork

Through the 'Provision of Public Art in Development Proposals Policy', the City of Melville aims to further enhance public spaces, and encourage organisations to celebrate Melville's history and culture and contribute to building a sense of community pride.

Application forms and assessment

Development Applications that are approved with a condition for public art are required to provide artwork to the value of 1% of the development, or alternately pay cash in lieu of providing the artwork.

Artwork concepts need to be submitted to the Public Art Panel, using the form below. The Panel convenes every 6-8 weeks to assess the artwork concepts. Applications must comply with the Policy (LPP1.4) and with the guidelines outlined in the application form.

Prior to preparing a submission, please contact the Cultural Development Officer - Arts to discuss your artwork concept for your development. They can provide guidance and suggestions for a successful outcome and notify you of the next Assessment date. Email the Cultural Development Officer (Arts) or call 9364 0645.
