Pensioners & Seniors Rebates & Deferment
Find out if you are eligible for a pensioner and seniors rebate?
Can I get a Pensioners or Seniors rebate or deferment?
Pensioners and seniors who meet certain criteria and hold valid cards, are entitled to claim a rebate of up to 50% off the current rates or a deferment of Council rates.
To qualify for a pensioner/senior rebate or deferment, you must be an owner and occupier of the property at 1 July 2004.
The concessions available are:
-
Seniors card only, holders are entitled to receive up to a 25% rebate on rates. Deferment is not available.
-
Seniors Card and Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders are entitled to receive up to a 50% rebate on rates and may be able to defer payment on rates.
-
Pensioner Concession Card or State Concession Card holders are entitled to receive up to a 50% rebate on rates and may be able to defer payment on rates.
Those pensioners who are eligible for a 50% pensioner rebate are also eligible to defer their general rates until the property is sold. If a pensioner defers their rates, they lose the rebate on those rates i.e. 100% of the rates are deferred, not 50%. Refuse charges, security charges and pool inspection charges may not be deferred and must be paid in full.
How do I apply for a concession?
To apply for a concession, submit a completed application form together with a photocopy of both sides of your card to either the Water Corporation or The City of Melville.
