Litter Bin Collection and Disposal Service

The City of Melville provides litter bins to help make the area a healthy, safe and clean place to live.

The City of Melville has approximately 700 litter bins strategically located throughout the district. These bins have been upgraded over a period of time from 60 litre metal bins to 240 litre plastic bins with lids.

The bins are located in foreshore areas, on parks and reserves and in public places such as shopping centres, bus stops and other appropriate areas.

The frequency with which these bins are emptied is dependant upon use and seasonal conditions, with some emptied daily, others weekly and others as required. However, any public litter bin can be utilised for placing dog waste in. Bags for dog excreta can be any plastic bag.

Many bins are also equipped with 'dog excreta' bags for use by the public when exercising their dogs. The contents of all bins are subsequently delivered to the City of Canning landfill site for disposal.
