Footpaths and street trees

Posted by Jill Shelton at 29 February 2008, 10:58 AM
Does any one know how to get footpaths in a developed locality that has none (that is none on EITHER side of the residential roads)? Also more street trees planted for shading pedestrians?

Most homes and gardens are well established of around 20 years of age and so understandably residents would resist having "their" garden verges dug up for footpaths and/or new trees. Some properties now have mature bushes and non trafficable flower beds in the verge making it necessary to walk (or run)on the road and dodge parked cars. "Brick chip* verges" are becoming more common.

Our locality has lots more people trying to keep fit and building community spirit by walking more frequently. What's happened to the almost universal planting of street trees for shading and good footpaths as a suburban right for everyone, every where? Our area needs long term solutions that consider traffic, resident verge parking and footpath location balanced against resident desires and local council apathy & budgeting constraints.

With several properties becoming suitable to sub divide and redevelop there will be more traffic, more driveways and less room for street trees. However with this development happening and similarly underground power installation now is a good time for improving our suburb.

*Water saving and low maintenance "Brick chips" that are of large diameter (more like small rocks rather than properly bedded gravel) are impossible for wheeled prams, bikes or wheelchairs to traverse and have potential to twist ankles of the pedestrian users or joggers using the verges in preference to risking the road and its increasing traffic.

Nth Lake Rd / Kitchener Rd intersection work

Posted by Steve Casas at 15 August 2008, 09:10 AM
What exactly is the roadworks occurring at the intersection of Nth Lake Rd and Kitchener Rd? The website isn't exactly overflowing with details really.

North Lake Rd & Kitchener St

Posted by Traffic and Transport at 18 August 2008, 08:12 AM
The current works relate to providing some pre-deflection on the north-south legs of the roundabout at this intersection. This should assist with the 'rear end' crashes occurring on North Lake Rd as it will slow vehicles down enough to allow motorist to assess whether there are sufficient gaps in the circulating traffic. Funding has been provided through the Blackspot Programme.

Bullcreek Park and ride - Parking

Posted by Josh at 15 August 2008, 09:10 AM
I travel to work each day on the southern rail system, by 8am there is no parking left at the park and ride so like a lot of people i parked on Selway Rd. Now no standing signs have been errected there. I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble with finding parking and if there are any plans around extending the parking space. Maybe go to a second story?
Cheers
