1. Local Planning Scheme No. 6

Local Planning Scheme No. 6 is the primary document of the City's local planning framework.

The Scheme is granted statutory weight under the Planning and Development Act 2005. The provisions of Local Planning Scheme No. 6 are guided and supplemented by the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015.

Local Planning Scheme No. 6 contains information on:

  • Development assessment provisions for land use zones
  • Land use permissibility within each land use zone
  • Development application processes
  • Definitions/interpretations of planning terms and land uses

Some development provisions in LPS6 are also supplemented by Local Planning Policies.

2. Local Planning Policies

Local Planning Policies are implemented under the provisions of Local Planning Scheme No. 6. Local Planning Policies are used to guide the assessment process of developments within the City of Melville.

LPP1.1 Planning Process and Decision Making

The policy outlines the assessment and advertising processes to be followed for planning applications within the City of Melville.

LPP1.2 Architectural and Urban Design Advisory Panel

The policy outlines the process for the establishment and operation of an Architectural and Urban Design Advisory Panel in the City of Melville.

LPP1.3 Waste and Recyclabes Collection for Multiple Dwellings Mixed Use Deveopments and Non-Residential Developments

The policy contains waste requirements for new and existing multiple dwelling, mixed use and non-residential developments within the City of Melville.

LPP1.4 Provision of Public Art in Development Proposals

The policy contains requirements regarding the provision of public art schemes or cash in lieu for certain development types over $1 million in the City of Melville.

The policy relates to the assessment of development located on properties within one street block of Canning Highway within the City of Melville.
