Wirless Hill Vision 2020 Project
Wireless Hill was one of Australia’s first telecommunications stations. The site played an important role in both World Wars, relaying messages from ship to shore. Communication was the vision of Wireless Hill back in 1912 and now it is your turn.
The City of Melville has been working with the community and other important stakeholders to develop a plan that responds appropriately to heritage, environmental and community objectives. As well as ensuring this regionally, significant site stays a community focal point for the future.
The development of a 'Vision Document’ for Wireless Hill will provide the needed direction to ensure that this regionally significant site stays a community focal point into the future. With the recognised diversity of activities occurring at the site a shared vision will pull together themes and objectives to create a framework for the future.
The Vision document will aim to achieve these outcomes:
- Preserve, enhance and promote heritage
- Preserve, enhance and educate about the environment
- Promote local and regional significance of the reserve
- Provide a local and regional community destination
- Integration to adjacent facilities/services
These outcomes will benefit the local and regional community, related community groups, the State Government, City of Melville Officers and many other stakeholders.
Following wide community consultation in creating the vision for Wireless Hill, the City of Melville is now seeking public comment on the consolidated ‘Draft Wireless Hill Vision 2020’.
Submissions should be clearly marked ‘Comments on the Draft Wireless Hill Vision 2020’. To make an online submission click here or send via mail to the Chief Executive Officer, City of Melville, Locked Bag 1 Booragoon, WA 6954. The public comment period will close at 4.00pm on Friday, 26 June 2009.
We encourage you as part of the Community, to provide any comments and additional feedback. The resultant feedback will then be consolidated and reported for review by Council and finalisation of the 'Wireless Hill Vision 2020'.
The second stage of the project will be to develop a Master Plan guided by the Vision document. Aspirations obtained from the community, key stakeholders, officers, councillors and the Stakeholder Reference Group will be made available on the site. These documented aspirations will be used as an interactive document for dialogue between the community and Council Officers.
Stay tuned for further details.
