Background
Background to the Melville Visions project
Dialogue with the City
In April 2004, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure under the direction of the Hon. Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Alannah MacTiernan produced a document entitled “Making Perth the City We Want”. The document was prepared following a large inter-active community planning forum held in September 2003 called “Dialogue with the City – Working together to make Perth the worlds most liveable city”.
The “Dialogue with the City” process provided opportunity for the public to directly participate in the planning process through community survey, listening sessions and discussing ideas and concepts for the future of the Perth Metropolitan and Peel Regions at the Dialogue with the City forum.
As a result of the dialogue process and resultant documents, the State Government offered the “Dialogue with the City Communities Program”. Local authorities were offered funding to hold dialogues with their local communities with the aim of developing strategies and plans that will contribute to meeting the emerging objectives of the metropolitan wide Dialogue with the City process.
Melville Visions
The “Dialogue with the City of Melville (Melville Visions)” project will result from the Communities Program and witness the opportunity to explore with the Melville community their views and opinions on local issues such as traffic and transportation, residential densities, the local economy, open space and the environment, asset management and corporate direction amongst other issues. The results of consultation will collectively feed into a review of Community Planning Scheme No.5, assist in the preparation of organisation business plans for infrastructure and service provision, strengthen social cohesion and most importantly to forge better links between the City of Melville and its community.
Consultants with expertise in engaging the community through various means (survey, workshop etc) have been engaged to work with the City of Melville to ensure that the objectives of both the Dialogue with the City, scheme and service review processes can be met.
