The biggest youth festival south of the river is set to draw in crowds of up to 7000 people as is celebrates its 10th birthday on Sunday, 30 March 2008.

YAC It Up 2008 at Point Walter Reserve, in Bicton, will feature a star-studded line-up, including local bands Jebediah, The Silents, Good Little Fox and 2007 Battle of the Bands winner The Killer Cars as well as eastern states’ sensations Stealing O’Neal and The Getaway Plan.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said it was great to see the support from the community for events such as YAC It Up. “The City of Melville is very proud to see YAC It Up celebrate its 10th birthday,” he said. “It is important that we can provide local youth with safe, alcohol and drug free events such as YAC It Up.”

Community Development Officer – Youth, Jo McKay said YAC It Up was a great day out for young people and was one of Perth’s few all ages’ summer festivals. “YAC It Up has had some of Australia’s biggest bands such as Eskimo Joe, Spiderbait and Jebediah perform on its main stage,” she said. “The concert is a great testament to all the hard work and dedication of the Melville Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).”

The Schedule for YAC It Up 2008 is:

  • 12:30pm – Gates Open
  • 12:35pm – Local DJ
  • 1.15pm  – Good Little Fox
  • 1.55pm – The Killer Cars
  • 2.25pm – Stealing O’Neal
  • 3.10pm – The Getaway Plan
  • 3.55pm – The Silents
  • 5.05pm – Jebediah

The free concert not only showcases some great live music but it also has an arts market, DJ’s, community stalls, rides, amusements, urban art demonstrations, interactive games and a chill out tent.

Ms McKay said that people were reminded that although entry is free guests must have a ticket to enter. “Guests must get their tickets prior to the event from one of a number of local venues,” she said.

The event is recommended for young people aged 12 to 25 and guests are reminded that daylight savings ends the morning of the concert. Ensure your clocks are set to the right time to avoid missing your favourite band.
