Thousands of young people gathered at Point Walter Reserve, in Bicton, on Sunday, 30 March to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the annual YAC It Up youth concert.

Hosted by the City of Melville and organised by the Melville Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), the concert featured performances by a fantastic line-up of local and interstate bands.

Eastern states’ acts The Getaway Plan and Stealing O’Neal proved a big hit, sending the crowd into a frenzy, while local favourites Jebediah finished the concert off in style, playing many of their biggest hits as requested by the young audience.

As well as showcasing some great live music, the free concert also featured an arts market, DJs, community stalls, rides, amusements, urban art demonstrations, interactive games and a chill out tent.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said it was great that to see that the YAC It Up continued to prove popular with the local community. “It is the biggest youth festival south of the river and the City of Melville is proud that we can provide local youth with safe, alcohol and drug free events such as YAC It Up,” he said. “We really appreciate the support of sponsors Healthway and Drug Aware.”

Community Development Officer – Youth, Jo McKay said there was a really good atmosphere at the concert with a number of games and giveaways to help celebrate the 10th anniversary. “The concert ran very smoothly with everyone seeming to really enjoy themselves,” she said. “The concert is a great testament to all the hard work and dedication of the Melville YAC and we hope to make it bigger and better in the coming years.”
