Willagee Residents Treasure Local Exhibition
The Willagee Community Centre will host a photographic exhibition titled Willagee Treasures from Thursday, 22 November to Wednesday, 5 December 2007.
The exhibition will feature a range of photographs, taken by local residents, that celebrate living in Willagee. Photographs range from babies at playgroup to seniors exercising at the Braemar Gardens Retirement Village as well as a number of other photos capturing the people, culture and places of Willagee.
Mayor Russell Aubrey, who will officially open the exhibition, said it was wonderful to see people getting actively involved in projects such as Willagee Treasures and display such as passion for their community. “Willagee Treasures is a excellent project that will encourage people to embrace and celebrate their neighbourhood,” he said. “It will also help to create a more connected community.”
The images in the exhibition will also be featured in a 2008 community calendar, organised by the Willagee Alive community group. The active local group received a City of Melville Community Grant to help them produce the 2008 community calendar.
Willagee Alive member Trish Donovan said this latest project allowed them to create something special and memorable in their community. “Our projects aim to foster a sense of pride in our community and create a space or occasion where people of all ages and cultures can enjoy time together and appreciate the differences and similarities that make Willagee a special place,” she said.
Willagee Community Centre is on the corner of Archibald Street and Winnacott Street, in Willagee. The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday, 22 November at 4.00pm. Attendees to the opening are encouraged to RSVP on 9364 0848.
