Walk the Melville Bridges for Health

Published Date: 03 October 2011, 04:30 PM

Residents are invited to Walk the Bridges – a City of Melville event on Sunday, 30 October 2011, which aims to encourage local people to walk for health, recreation and environmental reasons.

The activity attracted 250 walkers last year and was inspired by Walk Over October – a Heart Foundation and State Government initiative to encourage West Australians to walk.

Presented by the City of Melville and Mt Pleasant Neighbourhood Watch and supported by  Applecross Rotary and Y-Striders walking club, Walk the Bridges will start at Deep Water Point in Mt Pleasant at 9.30am and take a 6.5 kilometre, scenic route around the river to Mt Henry Bridge, Canning Bridge and along the Esplanade to return to Deep Water Point.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “I encourage families and friends to demonstrate good heart health and have fun by walking the bridges.”

“As a TravelSmart initiative, participants are encouraged to leave the car at home if possible, with the closest bus stop on Reynolds Road for the 150 and 160 bus route. For those arriving by train, you can start at Canning Bridge.

“This is an event for all ages, with a free sausage sizzle brunch supplied by the local Neighbourhood Watch team.”
