Teams Turn Pink to Play for a Cure
Forty-eight netball teams at the Melville Recreation Centre will turn pink and Play for a Cure next week (October 5 and 6) to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Play for a Cure is the Centre’s contribution to the NBCF’s program Team Pink, a new fundraising initiative aimed at encouraging people to get active and support breast cancer research.
Players at the Centre will make a gold coin donation to don pink gear during games and staff will sell merchandise and raffle tickets to raise funds for the cause.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said this was a first for the City’s Lifestyle Services, with the intention of making it a regular event.
“It’s fantastic to see the staff and community getting behind such a worthy and important cause that tragically touches so many lives. I hope City of Melville residents will get behind this initiative whole-heartedly and help us raise as much as possible,” he said.
“I can’t think of a better way to raise funds for families affected by breast cancer than by taking an active role in sport – being active is vital to help protect and improve our health so I’m very proud to see such a lively initiative in the City of Melville.”
All sport-lovers are welcome to come along as a spectator to show their support and make a donation.
The ladies netball competition games will start at 6.15pm on Tuesday, 5 October and mixed netball the following night, Wednesday, 6 October at 6.15pm.
Melville Recreation Centre is located at the corner of Canning Highway and Stock Road in Melville.
