Team Melville Crosses Finish Line
The City of Melville has congratulated all Team Melville members who courageously set new personal ‘bests’ in the Chevron City to Surf for Activ on Sunday, 28 August and helped raise hundreds of dollars for local charity, Melville Cares.
At a celebratory event at the Melville Recreation Centre after the race, Captain of the team Mayor Russell Aubrey handed a cheque for $300.00 to Melville Cares.
Mayor Aubrey, who finished his half-marathon (21 kilometres) 5.5 minutes ahead of his own target, said he was incredibly proud of his fellow team members.
“All team members put in 150 per cent to run or walk their event, it was a very impressive effort by all and such a fantastic way to raise funds for Melville Cares’ valuable service,” he said.
“Team Melville was not only a fantastic community event for charity, it was an initiative to help improve community health and inspire people to achieve their best, which was certainly a success!”
Thirty four people joined Team Melville in support of Melville Cares, which provides quality support services to the frail aged and younger people with disabilities and their carers – helping these people to be more independent at home and in the community, enhancing their quality of life and preventing admission into long-term care.
Team Melville was generously supported by Stormbox and Westrac.
