Strobe Dance Party Continues YAC It Up Alternatives for 2009

Published Date: 02 June 2009, 11:24 AM

DJ dance party Strobe is set to get Melville moving on Saturday, 20 June 2009 thanks to the City of Melville’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC).

The DJ dance party, to be held from 7.00pm to 11.00pm, will feature The Beat Collective who will entertain high-schoolers with energising dance music including electro, house, drum and base, and club anthems.

Community Development Officer –Youth, Callum Prior said The Beat Collective was a group of artists formed under the Edith Cowan University (ECU) Guild umbrella. “Strobe will feature a number of DJs from the collective, as seen at Dunsborough Leavers 2006-2008 which was a real hit,” he said. With a limit of 300 places available at the door, and a first-come, first-in basis, it’s definitely a good idea to get there early.”

“Strobe is a lock-in event so people should be aware they will not be able to leave until it ends. This is a smoke, drug and alcohol-free event, with drinks and snacks available for purchase,” he said. “I encourage high schoolers to make the most of this fun-filled night of free entertainment; it really is a great chance to see The Beat Collective in action and have a great night out with friends.”

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the event was sure to be another great YAC It Up Alternative for 2009. “This event aims to entertain high-schoolers who have voiced there should be more to do in the City on a Saturday night,” he said. “Strobe is a great chance for young people to get involved in music and have fun in a positive environment. With supervision from the Beat Collective’s Kevin Taylor, the City of Melville’s Youth Team, as well as hired security, it’s sure to be a safe and enjoyable night of entertainment for the City’s young people.”

Strobe will be held at the City of Melville Civic Centre, Main Hall, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon.  For more information contact Mr Prior on 9364 0624 or email Callum.Prior@melville.wa.gov.au.
