Stage Two Parkland Construction Begins at the Former Melville Primary
Stage two parkland construction at the former Melville Primary School site on the corner of Curtis and Kitchener Roads has now commenced.
Stage one construction of the playscape area in the North West section of the site, is proceeding well and near completion.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City would like to thank local residents for their support and patience during the construction of the park.
“When complete, the park will be a place for everyone in the community to share and enjoy,” he said.
“The playscape will be interactive and will include unique elements such as musical instruments, embankment slides, sand play equipment and much more. With barbecues and seating facilities as well as an accessible design, the playscape will be family-friendly, and invoke a sense of involvement and community for everyone.
“The remainder of the park, including parkland and bushland areas, will include boardwalks, a wetland area, an amphitheatre-style seating area, exercise equipment; public artwork, walking paths and much more. This phase of the project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2010.
“There will be an official public celebration to open the park in late Spring 2010. The official opening date will be announced later in the year.”

*The Australian Government provided $2.686 million for the project from its $1 billion Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. This is part of the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan which is supporting local jobs and injecting money directly into local economies around Australia. Without this support the redevelopment of the former Melville Primary School site may not have been possible.
*The City of Melville contributed approximately $1.4 million towards the project.
