Sirens and Hoses at Free School Holiday Event
Children aged four to 12 years are invited to a free, hands-on Safety and Sirens event to be held on Wednesday, 11 January 2012.
Coordinated by the City of Melville and attended by emergency service vehicles, the special school holiday activity will give children the opportunity to learn about safety issues, while having fun talking to people from the WA Police, Fire and Emergency Services.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said, "Come to Safety and Sirens and meet your local Police Officers and Firefighters, hear about safety in your neighbourhood and get up close to the sirens and hoses on the police car and fire truck."
"It’s an interactive learning program that equips children with the skills to keep safe and, best of all, it’s local and free!
"This event is part of the City’s commitment to achieving a Safer Melville by educating young people and building a positive relationship between kids and emergency services."
City of Melville Librarian Dominique Ward said the invitation followed the success of last year’s Safety and Sirens where approximately 90 children and parents attended each library.
"Last year was fantastic and children were given plenty of interactive opportunities, such as exiting a room with make-believe smoke and operating the fire hoses," she said.
"I expect the 2012 sessions to be just as popular."
