Signing Ceremony Illuminates Attadale’s Underground Power

The State Government, Western Power and the City of Melville launched the Attadale South underground power project with an official signing ceremony yesterday (25 August 2010).

Construction has commenced on underground power installation in Attadale South, with final works expected for completion by December 2011.

Energy Minister Peter Collier said, “Attadale South represents the City of Melville’s fifth underground power project, adding to the completed projects in Applecross, Bicton, Mount Pleasant and Booragoon.”

“It will connect almost 1,380 lots and cost $13.5 million."

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the city had approximately 50 per cent of the power infrastructure underground at this time.

“The City believes that its residents are keen supporters of underground power and will continue to seek opportunities to increase the amount of underground power within the City,” he said. “The City is pleased to have five projects currently being considered for inclusion in the program. The projects, which are currently out to survey, comprise of close to 4,500 property owners in the City of Melville.”

Western Power managing director Doug Aberle said the corporation was proud to be part of this successful program.

"Underground power’s many benefits, include improved reliability and security of power supply, enhanced streetscapes, lower maintenance costs and increased safety,” Mr Aberle said.
