Seniors Safety Sessions Provide Practical Advice

Published Date: 01 March 2011, 12:00 AM

Back by popular demand, a series of six, free safety related topics targeted at Seniors has been organised by the City of Melville for April through to May 2011.

The Seniors Safety Sessions initiative is part of the vision of a shared safer Melville, which is also outlined in the Age Friendly Melville Strategy: Directions for Seniors.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “After running the series last year the response was overwhelming. The Seniors community has asked for more of these popular sessions and the City has responded.”

“This year the information sessions will be held in smaller group settings, spread across the suburbs.

“Providing opportunities for Seniors to hear factual information and be able to speak directly to service providers is a win-win situation which will ensure attendees are reliably informed. The sessions will serve to increase the safety of Seniors which is a priority of the City of Melville.”

The safety topics include: information on how to safely catch buses and trains; driving safely tips; home, fire and storm safety; consumer protection; and mistreatment of older adults.

The Seniors Safety Sessions are free and commence on Thursday, 14 April 2011 and conclude on Wednesday, 25 May 2011.
