Seniors invited to safety session at the Civic Centre
Seniors in the City of Melville are invited to attend a free, safety information session on Monday 28 June from 10.30am to 12 noon.
Organised by the City of Melville, the attendees will hear from a panel of safety experts and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the safety session would be comprehensive.
“The panel will include: a police officer discussing the local crime statistics, what they mean for the City of Melville and how a person can improve the safety of their home; the local Community Safety Service (CSS) Officer on how the CSS contributes to safety and when to call the CSS; and a representative from the Public Transport Authority advising on the safety of public transport in Perth and how to feel safer as a senior when using public transport.
“Also speaking at the safety session will be: a representative from the WA Seniors Card Centre to explain the seniors’ security subsidy scheme and how a person can claim this; and the local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Coordinator about what NHW is and how people can get involved to improve their safety.
“A free lunch will be provided and all attendees will receive a free senior’s safety information pack, including a personal panic alarm.”
The City of Melville Seniors Safety Session will be held on Monday 28 June 2010 from 10.30am to 12.00 noon at the City of Melville Civic Centre, Conference Room, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon.
Places are limited and seniors who would like to attend should RSVP by calling 1300 635 845 by no later than Wednesday, 23 June 2010.
The safety session is part of the City’s Age-Friendly Melville Strategy Directions for seniors and part of the shared vision of a Safer Melville.
The initiative is funded by the Office of Crime Prevention as part of the local government partnership fund.
