The City of Melville’s Lifestyle Services has been recognised for the provision of outstanding service to seniors through its Living Longer Living Stronger (LLLS) Program.

The program won a Gold Excellence Award for its service to West Australian seniors as part of the inaugural LLLS Awards hosted by the Council of the Ageing (COTA) on 30 October 2009.

The COTA-endorsed LLLS program is a fully-supervised, personalised over-50s strength training program that encourages and supports mature people to achieve improved health and quality of life.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Shayne Silcox said this award highlighted the City’s ongoing commitment to the provision of seniors’ programs in its facilities, through programs such as the well-established LLLS – which had been running five years – Forever Fit and Lifeball.

LLLS participant Jill Ridgway said she had gained so much since joining the program. “I feel privileged to be among such a wonderful group of people; the social aspect of belonging to my group is so beneficial,” she said. “My health has improved, I feel much fitter and more energetic and over the last few years I have lost weight, and maintained it.”

Another participant, Dorothy Kegal, said her whole outlook on life started to change when she got involved in LLLS. “Five years down the track I am the fittest I’ve ever been in body, mind and spirit,” she said.
