Search for Youth to Help Shape City’s Future
The City of Melville is looking for motivated and influential creative thinkers from across the City and from different backgrounds to bring new ideas and energy to the City of Melville’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
The City of Melville YAC is a group of 14 to 23 year olds who live in the City of Melville or are part of a Melville based organisation and who meet once a month to develop projects and events, talk about youth issues and help make a positive difference in the community.
The YAC is holding its annual membership drive, seeking new members to be a part of the YAC and share their ideas about youth services in the City in a fun and friendly environment.
Community Development Officer – Youth, Jo McKay said YAC has been the brains behind some of the City’s biggest youth projects, including the YAC It Up youth concert and the creation of the Vault youth space. “Melville YAC is one of the largest and most established Youth Advisory Councils in Perth and works on a wide range of projects and music events,” she said. “The YAC gives many young people an opportunity to become directly involved in their community, advocate for young people in the City of Melville and gain project management experience, which can help to open up career avenues for them in the future.”
The YAC is currently working on a major Youth Research Project to find out the kind of things young people in the City of Melville want and need. The results of the project will help shape future youth programs and services within the City.
To become a YAC member, visit www.melvillecity.com.au/youth to download an application form or phone 9364 0669. Positions are limited and only open once a year, so this is an opportunity not to be missed. Nominations close Friday, 3 October 2008.
