Safety-themed Story Time Promotes Safer Melville
The City of Melville’s Library Services and Neighbourhood Amenity partnered to host a successful safety-themed Story Time for pre-school aged children at the Civic Square Library in Booragoon on Thursday, 7 April 2011.
More than 46 children and 29 parents attended the event to listen to Chief Rhino to the Rescue, Felix the Fire Engine and Maisy’s Fire Engine and to learn about safety-related themes and participate in rhymes and songs.
Attending children also participated in an activity to create their own fire safety scene in which they cut-out and coloured-in firemen and fire trucks, using red cellophane as the flames.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “Story Time was identified as an excellent opportunity to engage young children and their parents in reinforcing important safety messages. This is also part of the City's shared vision of a Safer Melville.”
“Story Time is a chance for parents and children to share and join in rhymes and songs and also a great opportunity for parents and friends to catch up and have a chat.
“The events also: raise awareness of the City’s five libraries; encourage the community to attend; demonstrate how we try to cater for all age groups; and improve children’s literacy.”
