Public Invited to Sculpture Walk 2010
The City of Melville has invited residents and visitors to this year’s Sculpture Walk, opening Friday, 12 March at Deep Water Point in Mount Pleasant.
Sculpture Walk 2010 will exhibit works by sixteen West Australian artists, with the sculptures taking inspiration from the river.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the event was growing in popularity.
“The Sculpture Walk is in its seventh year and designed to encourage emerging sculptors,” he said.
“The exhibition makes for an impressive and interesting display, set in the picturesque surrounds of the river foreshore.”
City of Melville Cultural Development Officer (Arts) Hannah Katarski said this year’s sculptures were made from a variety of materials.
“Works are made from: steel; fiberglass; recycled wood; handmade felt; as well as found, recycled and ephemeral objects” she said. “The sculptures vary in size, from a series of quite small objects, through to works that are four metres tall.”
“Visitors will be able to experience an exciting and diverse range of artworks which comment on the Deepwater Point location and its significance to our ecosystem, our heritage and our modern lives.”
“We expect Sculpture Walk’s change of location from Piney Lakes to Deep Water Point to be both inspiring and uplifting.”
Sculpture Walk 2010 is free and runs from Saturday, 13 March to Sunday, 11 April on The Esplanade at Deep Water Point in Mount Pleasant. The official opening is at 6.00pm on Friday, 12 March.
Parking is available and the venue is wheelchair-accessible, with public toilets nearby.
