Preparation is Key to Fire Survival
Preventing house fires and protecting your home and family from bush fires will be the focus of a free safety education day ‘Prepare. Act. Survive.’ to be held on Sunday, 5 February 2012.
The event has been organised and co-hosted by the City of Melville, Fire and Emergency Services (FESA) and Neighbourhood Watch (NHW).
It will provide fire safety education and resources by FESA representatives, plus fire truck tours will be available to the public.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said, "Fire danger is top-of-mind right now following the devastating fires in Margaret River and Roleystone. In fact, last year Melville residents were impacted by the fires at Wireless Hill in Ardross where homes and vegetation were damaged.
"With preparation and planning, the majority of houses can fortunately survive most fires. If you live near bushland or would like information about how to protect your greatest asset and your family, I encourage you to attend ‘Prepare. Act. Survive.’
"’Prepare. Act. Survive’ will provide residents with the information they need to prepare for and prevent fires. Additionally, City of Melville Community Safety Service Officers and Rangers and NHW representatives will be on-site to provide information on home and vehicle security."
A free sausage sizzle will also be provided.
‘Prepare. Act. Survive.’ will be held on Sunday, 5 February 2012 from 10.00am to 12 noon at Wireless Hill Park, Telefunken Drive, Ardross. No RSVPs are necessary.
