Music Makes its Mark on Melville this Summer

Published Date: 10 October 2007, 04:30 PM

The City of Melville will be buzzing with music this summer when the Limestone Summer Concerts begin on Sunday, 4 November 2007.

Six free concerts will be held from November to March on the first Sunday of every month at the Limestone Amphitheatre.

Mayor Katherine Jackson said the Limestone Summer Concerts had been an integral part of the City of Melville for more than a decade. “The concerts give Melville residents an opportunity to listen to world-class artists in a relaxed and peaceful environment,” she said.  “This summer the concerts cater for all musical tastes, from funk, reggae and soul to ethnic, cultural and classical music.”

The concerts kick off with a groovy performance by reggae, funk and soul group Funk Shui. The band covers songs from a range of well known artists such as Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

Lead vocalist and City of Melville resident Felicity Visic recently returned to singing with Funk Shui after an extensive Asian tour. Ms Visic said the Limestone Summer Concerts provided a relaxed and fun way for families to spend a Sunday evening. “As a City of Melville resident, I think we are fortunate to have such an event that can bring the local community together,” she said. “I am really looking forward to being involved in the concert series.”

Hit acts Pascale and Jay Weston are returning for another year accompanied by new acts Bernard Carney and David Hyams, Heads We’re Dancing and the Chinese New Year Celebrations.

Concerts start at 6.00pm, so pack a picnic and enjoy the free entertainment at sunset.

The Limestone Amphitheatre is located between Garden City Shopping Centre, the Melville Civic Centre and the Civic Square Library. Parking is available off Davy Street, in the Civic Square Library car park.
