Music for All Ages at The Chamber

Published Date: 05 July 2012, 09:37 AM

On Saturday, 14 July 2012 the Melville Youth Advisory Council (YAC) proudly launches The Chamber, a new all ages music venue with the Brow Horn Orchestra headlining the inaugural event.

While the previous youth space The Vault is undergoing a refurbishment and will soon reopen as a multipurpose hall for up to 100 people called The SCENE, the launch of The Chamber makes use of an existing venue at the City of Melville Civic Centre and can accommodate from 50 to 420 people depending on the event.

City of Melville’s Community Development Officer (Youth) Callum Prior said the new space provided more opportunities for bands and event organisers to hold live music events of both a small and large scale.

“The Melville Youth Advisory Council (YAC) supports and manages regular all age live music events and provides opportunities for emerging and professional acts. Having the right venue in a central accessible location is critical to the success of the program,” he said

“Events are run by bands with support from the YAC Music Committee and this is designed to give young performers and bands the opportunity to gain experience managing their own events.

“The launch event for The Chamber will feature The Brow Horn Orchestra with their Two Fires EP launch and supporting acts Set Sail (Sydney) and Bass Reflex. This will be a great event and I encourage everyone to pick up their tickets from Moshtix or at the door on the night.”

The YAC music project is an initiative driven by the City’s Directions from Young People 2010-2013, a plan developed by young people about what they want in the City of Melville and how they want it delivered.

Through various events the YAC also supports the Music Feedback Project, an initiative of the Department for Health and Schools Alive, a school incursion program offered by the West Australian Music Industry Association.

The launch event of The Chamber will be held on Saturday, 14 July 2012 at the City of Melville Civic Centre, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon . Doors open at 1.00pm and tickets are available from moshtix.com.au presale or on the door.
