Melville Turns ‘Mo’ville for Movember Fund Raising

Each year Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of mens’ faces in Australia and around the world, with the sole aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Mayor Aubrey grew a moustache for the cause while, going against the trend, Dr Shayne Silcox volunteered to remove his 30-year-old moustache.

To date, all funds raised for Movember have come from fellow City of Melville employee donations.

Mayor Aubrey quipped, “The clean shave has definitely brought Shayne’s appearance into the 21^st century.”

CEO Dr Shayne Silcox responded, “Mayor Aubrey demonstrates that not everyone can pull off a mo. I’m proud to champion a real man’s moustache throughout the year.”

The City of Melville (or Moville) has seen more than 40 male employees grow mos for Movember. Residents can expect to see many newly-grown mo’s out and about: clearing waste; working on the customer service desk; employed in the finance and planning departments; as Rangers in the streets and parks; and taking care of maintenance jobs.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said he applauded the large group of male City of Melville employees who are joining in the fun and growing a mo for such a good cause.

“It’s great for men to have fun with Movember and satisfying to know the funds are going towards the important health issues of prostate cancer and male depression,” he said.

The Melville Movember movement is just one of the City of Melville’s fund-raising causes. Once a month, employees donate to a nominated charity and this year donations have been raised for charities such as: Cancer Council WA, Heart Foundation, Diabetes WA, RSPCA WA and Debra Australia.
