Melville Students Help Seniors Make the Most of Mobile Phones
City of Melville seniors can learn how to make the most of their mobile phones at upcoming lessons to be run by Melville Senior High School students.
The phone-savvy group of Year 10 students will run free one-on-one lessons in a stress-free setting, to show seniors how they can make the most of mobile phone technology. Students will be available to help seniors with anything from making calls, to text messaging and taking photos.
The lessons to be held on Wednesdays will commence on 11 March, with lessons also available on Fridays, beginning 20 March. All classes will be held from 11.30pm to 12.30pm at Melville Senior High School on Potts Street, in Melville.
Following a similar format to last year’s successful program, each senior will be paired with the same young instructor for up to four lessons. This is to ensure that lessons are individually suited to the learner’s interests and mobile phone, and to provide personal attention so that questions can be easily asked and answered.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said mobile phone lessons for seniors were a great initiative that would bring together two generations. “It’s a great opportunity for young people to share their knowledge and engage with the community’s senior citizens,” he said. “Mobile phones and new technology can be daunting at any age.”
Morning tea will be provided and participants are asked to bring their mobile phone, their phone charger and any manuals or instruction booklets they have for their phone.
The Mobile Telephone Lessons for Senior Citizens program is organised and staffed by student volunteers at Melville Senior High School as a component of their Community Service Program.
