Melville Set To Celebrate Foreshore Festival and Fireworks

Published Date: 16 February 2009, 08:17 AM

The Point Walter Reserve will again play host to an array of entertainment this year as families are expected to flock to the foreshore to enjoy a free night of music with a fireworks finale on Sunday, 1 March 2009 from 5.00pm to 9.00pm.

Community Events Officer Kate Schilling said the night would kick off with the Applecross Calisthenics Group and The Dance Collective to get the party started. “Following the energetic dance performance will be four-piece Chicago-style blues band, Diamond Dave and The Doodaddies, who will entertain with swinging shuffles, soul, boogaloo, ‘cry in your beer’ blues and more,” she said. “Then get ready to dance the night away with an array of rocking rhythms and blues as the super group Slim Jim and The Phatts take centre stage. To finish the night, the Sambanistas will lead the crowd with the traditional rhythms of Brazil to the best vantage points to watch the colourful fireworks finale.”

Festival-goers can purchase food and drinks from Walters River Café or are welcome to bring along their own nibbles and drinks.

Mayor Russell Aubrey encouraged residents to come to the foreshore to join in the fun and festivities. “Don’t miss this great opportunity to be part of a fantastic family-friendly event supported by the City of Melville,” he said. “Bring a rug, pack a picnic and enjoy the night with family and friends. The Point Walter Family Concert and Fireworks presents a great chance for the community to connect with each other and is just one of many exciting events to be held in the City this year."
