Mayor’s Valued Citizen Award to Celebrate 10 Year Volunteers
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of International Year of the Volunteer, the City of Melville is today (Thursday, 25 August 2011) calling for nominations for a Mayor’s Valued Citizen Award – open to any volunteer who has given 10 years or more volunteering service.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said he had personally written to not-for-profit organisations in the City to advise them of the Mayor’s Valued Citizen Award and invite their organisations to nominate volunteers.
“While the City recognises the contribution of all volunteers, this award is a way to recognise the incredible contribution that long-service volunteers make in our fortunate City,” he said.
“Volunteers come from all walks of life and give their time across a diverse range of fields such as: sporting clubs, aged care, disability organisations, environmental groups and in school canteens.
“The Mayor’s Valued Citizen Award will celebrate and thank these wonderful people, who have given 10 years or more of their time and are the very fabric of a healthy community. The award also commemorates the 10th anniversary of International Year of the Volunteer.”
To be eligible for the award, volunteers must either live in the City or be involved with a not-for-profit organisation in the City. Nominees must have made a valuable volunteering contribution to the community for 10 years or more and cannot have been in a paid role with their organisation. Applications should be submitted by the President of the organisation.
