Mayor Urges Holidaymakers to Register with the CSS
Summer holidaymakers have been urged to protect their home today (Tuesday, 21 December 2010) by registering for the Holiday Watch Patrol service with the City of Melville’s mobile Community Safety Service (CSS).
The advice comes from Mayor Russell Aubrey who said the role of the CSS was to observe, monitor and report suspicious behaviour to police.
“I encourage people going on holiday to give themselves the gift of ‘peace of mind’ by registering for a holiday watch patrol with the CSS, which keeps a regular eye on peoples’ homes while they are away,” he said.
“The CSS is a 24 hour, seven day a week mobile patrol service, with someone available to talk to 24 hours a day.
“In the last 12 months the CSS Officers have passed over 700 reports with information onto the WA Police.
“The CSS Holiday Watch Patrol is no extra cost because it’s funded through the rates levy so ratepayers should certainly consider it their own personal security service.”
The service’s role is to: patrol the community in high visibility vehicles; identify and patrol “hot spot” areas to deter criminal activity; and provide police with intelligence to assist in crime prevention.
The CSS can be contacted on 1300 653 643, however for criminal matters always call the police on 131 444.
