Mayor Calls on Residents to Celebrate Leeming

Published Date: 13 May 2010, 12:00 AM

A celebration of colour, song, sports and entertainment will kick off the first ever Celebrate Leeming event on Sunday, 16 May from 9.00am to 3.00pm at Peter Ellis Reserve.

Local community groups are partnering with the City of Melville and The Rec to host the free, inaugural event, designed to highlight everything that’s great about living in Leeming.

Mayor Russell Aubrey, a proud Leeming local himself, invited all residents to the special celebration.

“Celebrate Leeming has something to offer everyone. The Rec’s facilities are particularly magnificent and a number of VIPs will be attending to meet with local people.

“The special guests include: former Australian Test Cricketer George Bradley Hogg; current Fremantle Dockers player, 2008 NAB rising star and former Leeming Senior High School student Rhys Palmer; and the Hon Minister for Sport and Recreation Terrence Waldron,” he said.

“Leeming’s people, facilities, community spirit, beauty and location are good reason to celebrate our wonderful suburb. I’ll see you there!”

The special day will include free indoor cricket, football, rec ball and zumba. There will be over 30 different stall holders, as well as entertainment from the Leeming Community Band and Leeming Senior High School Band.

The fun entertainment will also include dancing, a kite-making display and workshop, arty umbrella painting and a skate demo.

Celebrate Leeming will be held on Sunday, 16 May from 9.00am to 3.00pm at Peter Ellis Reserve and The Rec. Peter Ellis Reserve is located between The Rec, Leeming Skate Park and Leeming Forum Shopping Centre.

Celebrate Leeming Day

Just to stay thankyou to all the staff and people involved with the planning and smooth running of the day and events. I went with two 12 year old boys and had to relunctantly drag them home. They had the best time playing Rec ball with a guy named Daniel. He was great and I hope he has survived the 5 hour ordeal without too much pain. As for me I spent all day running around to different classes and doing crafts. Thanks everyone for all the hard work on the day and planning for the event we had heaps of fun.
