Local Musicians Showdown at the Vault

Published Date: 30 April 2009, 12:00 AM

The City of Melville is hosting a free, two-stage music event on Sunday, 10 May as part of the YAC It Up Alternative Events. The unique gig, ‘Showdown at the Vault!’, is being held by the City in conjunction with the WAMi Festival 2009 and the Department of Health’s Mental Health Division.

There will be performances by End of Fashion, Sugar Army, Elora Danan, Boys Boys Boys (see image right), Killer Cars, The Bullet Holes, Dyonysis, This Time at Night, and Pageants and Picnics.

Youth Engagement Officer Callum Prior said the event was being organised by the Melville All Ages Committee (MAAC), a group of young people who were supported by the City to run all-ages music events at the Vault throughout the year. “This event will be run under the umbrella of the WAMi Festival, an internationally-recognised music festival held by the Western Australian Music Industry Association. WAMi has been sourcing the bands for us, while the Department of Health – a WAMi Awards sponsor – is providing promotional support, and free CDs/DVDs for attendees as part of its Music Feedback* promotion,” he said.

“This is a unique opportunity to see some talented local acts free of charge and all in the one place. We encourage people to come along and show their support for the home-grown performers. However, event-goers are reminded this is a drug and alcohol-free event,” he said.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City of Melville valued its young people and offered many facilities and positive initiatives to cater for their interests. “We wish to provide young people opportunities to enjoy themselves in a safe and upbeat environment, and to get involved in their community without age or monetary boundaries,” he said.

The main stage will be in the Civic Centre Main Hall, while a second stage will be in the neighbouring Vault. Doors open at 1:00pm, with the event to run from 1:30pm to 6:30pm. Pre-registrations are available by calling 1300 635 845.
