Local Business Backs Sporting Community

Published Date: 15 February 2008, 08:16 AM

Local business Riseley Physiotherapy is giving back to the community by taking the aches and pains out of sports fees with its new Activity Grants program.

The program, which aims to improve opportunities for people in the local community to participate in sport and physical activities, will offer six grants of $1,000 per year. The grants will be split into two rounds with grants being offered every six months to access both summer and winter sports.

The grants offer financial assistance for individuals or projects that increase or maintain the number of participants for a particular activity or improve the quality, safety or access to participation opportunities.

Riseley Physiotherapy’s Managing Director Glenn Ruscoe said it was time to give back to the community. “We want to recognise the importance of sport and physical activity in maintaining the health and wellbeing of individuals as well as building the health of a community,” he said. “Eighty per cent of our clients are from the Melville area and we hope the grants will encourage them to take their performance to a higher level.”

Mr Ruscoe decided to offer the community grants after experiencing the costs associated with a high level of sport through his daughter who attends WAIS (Western Australian Institute of Sport) for gymnastics.

Strategic Community Development Director Anne Banks-McAllister said Riseley Physiotherapy was a great advocate for local philanthropy. “Riseley Physiotherapy are leading by example and encouraging other local business to give back, “she said. “The Melville community will benefit enormously from their generosity and example.”

Applications for first round grants are now open with applications closing on Monday, 31 March. Winners will be announced in late April. Application forms are available on the Riseley Physiotherapy website.
