Local Acts Bring Music To Melville
Local music lovers have the chance to enjoy two energising, all-ages music shows at the City of Melville this spring, including the final performance by Elora Danan.
The gigs will be happening at The Vault, supported by the Melville All Ages Committee (MAAC), a group of young people who the City supports to run all-ages music events at this venue throughout the year.
Elora Danan's final show will be from 1.00pm to 6.00pm on Sunday, 13 September 2009, while Boys Boys Boys! is performing from 6.00pm to 10.00pm on Thursday, 1 October 2009. The six-piece Elora Danan will be supported by Break Even, We Are the Emergency, Bridge the Gap and Surrender. Elora Danan has made the tough decision to disband after one final WA tour to thank their home state fans for their support. The tour will include shows in Bunbury, North Perth and Mandurah, before the finale in Melville.
Boys Boys Boys! will be supported in their show by Russian Winters, Tim & Jean (Triple J Unearthed finalists), and the My Big Gig finalists, who are unknown at this stage.
Community Development Officer – Youth, Callum Prior said the Boys Boys Boys! show would be a special event for the school holidays in place of The Vault’s regular Thursday night ‘Chill Out’ activities, which included free internet access, board games, table soccer, a pool table, and a projector screen for console gaming, TV and movies.
“This is a unique opportunity to see talented local acts – and we encourage people to come along and enjoy themselves, while also supporting these home-grown performers. It is particularly exciting that Elora Danan’s final show is happening right here in the City of Melville. However, event-goers are reminded both shows are drug and alcohol-free events,” he said.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City of Melville valued its young people and catered for their diverse interests through offering various facilities and positive initiatives. “We wish to provide young people opportunities to enjoy themselves in a safe and fun environment, and to get involved in their community through ventures such as the Youth Advisory Council, the youth research team RESET and the MAAC,” he said.
The MAAC is keen for new members. Anyone interested in organising or attending all-ages music events in the City of Melville should join the committee, or submit a demo to get their music heard. Those who would like to know more can phone Callum Prior on 9364 0624 or email callum.prior@melville.wa.gov.au.
