Heathcote’s Big Draw Adds Colour to Artopia
Heathcote Cultural Centre will come to life on Saturday, 22 September, from 9.00am to 2.00pm as residents take part in the Artopia 2007 Big Draw.
The Heathcote Big Draw encourages City of Melville residents to come along to take part in different drawing activities such as mural making, site history tours, chalk drawing, figure drawing and much more.
The Melville Community Arts Association helped involve Heathcote in Artopia by organising drawing groups, artists and teachers to provide non-stop family friendly drawing activities as part of Artopia.
Artopia is a biennial festival, organised by the State Government, that celebrates the talent of artists throughout Western Australia with exhibitions, drawing activities and artists open studios.
Mayor Katherine Jackson said the City of Melville recognised the importance of celebrating our local artists’ contributions to the community. “During the 23 days of Artopia, the City of Melville will host a number of events to celebrate our local artists,” she said. “The Big Draw at Heathcote, the City of Melville Fibre Studios, the City of Melville Sculpture Walk, the Sensory Play Park and the Heathcote Artists Open will all run during Artopia.”
Photographer Daniella Van, whose exhibition Beyond the Fence is currently on display at Heathcote Museum and Gallery, will join Birds Australia on an inspiring flora and fauna walk around Heathcote which will take place in conjunction with the Big Draw.
To get involved in the 2007 Artopia Big Draw come to the Heathcote Cultural Centre, in Duncraig Road, Applecross.
