Heathcote Exhibition is a Windfall for Local Artist
Perth’s scorching summer can unleash relentless heat and wild winds leaving bark peeled back from trees, leaves curled and seeds scattered. Visitors to the Heathcote Museum and Gallery will have an opportunity to see this fallen debris transformed into magnificent works of art.
The exhibition, titled Windfall by local artist Robyn Bogdanis, will be on display from Saturday, 24 May to Sunday, 29 June 2008.
Bogdanis said she found beauty and order in what some considered bush debris. “The pieces were created through a meditative process of collecting, sorting, sifting and reassembling the fallen bush material,” she said. “The exhibition aims to evoke memories of carefree days playing in the bush, reconnecting the viewer to the natural environment.”
Spending her childhood in the country, Bogdanis embraces her love of the Australian bush through the sensitive recreations and observances found in her latest exhibition.
Curator Soula Veyradier said the exhibition reflected the hidden beauty of our natural environment. “Bogdanis salvaged this ‘windfall’ material from local verges and parks and has recreated it into spectacular sculptural pieces,” she said. “The shape of leaves, the curve of branches and the texture of bark evolve into soulful creatures of survival.”
Windfall will be open to the public at Heathcote Museum and Gallery from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Tuesday to Friday, and 11:00am to 3:00pm on weekends.
