Have Your Say for Melville Glades and John Connell Reserves
Residents and community groups are invited to have their say and participate in a Community Planning Workshop about the revitalisation of Melville Glades Golf Course and John Connell Reserve, located in Leeming.
The City of Melville has committed to developing a Master Plan to revitalise these reserves and on Monday, 30 July 2012 will hold an open workshop to hear the ideas and visions of the general community.
With a total area of 115 hectares, the reserves are used mainly for active and passive recreation by a variety of sporting individuals, groups and associations including golf, football, soccer, cricket, bowls, archery and more.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said anyone in the community who has an interest in the reserves or a general desire to contribute to the planning process should step forward for this workshop and register their attendance.
“The aim of the Master Plan is to create a vision for future development and use of these reserves to benefit the social, environmental and general wellbeing of the broader community,” he said.
“Central to the creation of this vision will be the insight and direction gathered from the community which shall guide the foundation and inspiration for the plan.
“The City strongly believes a vision for the area is needed, however it has to be one the community has contributed to and supports, one which pays for itself and one which provides certainty for residents of the area, the users of the reserves and the Melville Glades Golf Course for the next 10-15 years.
“To those residents who are unable to attend the workshop I encourage you to jump onto our online forum and have your say there.”
Meetings are also being held with local sporting groups to understand their particular needs and ensure these needs are considered in the overall planning outcomes.
