Free Online Tutors for Melville Students

At no charge for City of Melville library members, yourtutor is useful for students from years four to 12, providing direct access to experienced tutors via the internet from 4.00pm to 8.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Mayor and Senior School Teacher Russell Aubrey said, “yourtutor connects thousands of students around Australia to tutors who provide instant help and coaching in all main subjects.”

“The City is proud to make this tutoring tool freely available to members of the City’s libraries.

“We have found that students and their parents love yourtutor because it's a smart way to take the stress out of schoolwork and be better prepared for exams and tests.

“There is virtually nothing you can do in a traditional classroom that isn't possible in the online classroom – including drawing charts, equations and file sharing.”

By accessing yourtutor, qualified tutors are available to help students one-on-one with their homework, exam preparation and study questions across a range of subjects, including English, maths and science.

Yourtutor also uses cutting-edge education tools like an interactive whiteboard, shared web browsing and controlled chat to connect students with tutors via home computers or at City of Melville libraries.

Providing access to yourtutor was identified as a point for action in the City’s Directions from Young People 2010 – 2013 strategy. In the strategy, young people in the City of Melville stated they wanted support and access to further education and career guidance.

A free community celebration of Directions from Young People 2010 – 2013 will be held at The Vault, 10 Almondbury Road (next to Civic Square Library), Booragoon on Thursday, 24 February 2011 from 4.00pm to 6.00pm. RSVP to the event by Tuesday, 22 February 2011 to 1300 635 845.
