Free Limestone Concerts under the Stars
The City of Melville will be buzzing this summer when the outdoor Limestone Summer Concerts begin on Sunday, 2 November 2008.
Five free concerts will be held from November through to March with one each month being held at the Limestone Amphitheatre, Booragoon from 6.00pm to 7:30pm.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the Limestone Summer Concerts had been a popular community event for many years now. “The concerts are designed for the whole community to enjoy,” he said. “So pack a picnic and enjoy a warm summer night under the stars while being entertained by some highly talented musicians.”
The Limestone Summer Concert Series will kick off with Tuxedo Junction, an a Capella harmony group singing a repertoire of popular jazz, Gershwin, Beatles, country, gospel and traditional music.
Fremantle composer, producer and instrumentalist David Hyams and his band, Miles to Go Band will play some of the finest Celtic music heard in Australia on Sunday, 7 December.
With a dynamic stage presence and relaxed banter of rock, blues, funk, reggae and soul, the John Read Band will play something for everyone on Sunday, 4 January 2009.
Lead singer Phil Firkin from Chain Reaction said the band will liven up the series on Sunday, 1 February 2009 with a seven-piece rock ‘n’ roll band presenting energetic hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. “We play classics that everyone knows and loves,” he said. “Kids, parents, grandmas and grandpas will all enjoy getting up and having a dance.”
Rounding off the concert series will be renowned local group, Grace Barbé with a multicultural culmination of dance styles from afro-funk, roots and reggae on Sunday, 15 March 2009.
The Limestone Amphitheatre is located between Garden City Shopping Centre, the Melville Civic Centre and the Civic Square Library. Parking is available off Davy Street, in the Civic Square Library car park.
