Seniors Services Continue Under New Service Provider

Published Date: 22 December 2010, 12:00 AM

The City of Melville has announced that a new service provider, Community First International (CFI), will take over the Meals on Wheels service and the Centre Based Day Care Program for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Seniors, effective from the new financial year (Friday, 1 July 2011).

Acting Chief Executive Officer Steve Cope said, “After more than 15 successful years providing these important services, the City is handing over the reigns to a better-equipped organisation. We conducted a rigorous interview process upon which the State Health Department’s Home and Community Care program has made the appointment of the new provider, CFI.”

The total number of Meals on Wheels clients in the City of Melville is 204 and the total number of Centre Based Day Care clients is 130.

“Of course, the hot meal Meals on Wheels delivery service and the Centre Based Day Care services will both continue, the direct care staff will continue to be employed and the highly-valued volunteers’ involvement is also expected to continue.

“Bull Creek Community Centre will still be used as the main venue for the Centre Based Day Care program.

“The appointment of CFI is a tremendous outcome for clients because the non-profit organisation currently provides, in their service in the Peel region, a wide range of other services to frail aged people such as: personal care; domestic assistance; social support; transport; and home maintenance. CFI will be better placed to consider the needs of City of Melville clients after they take over the Meals on Wheels and Centre Based Cay Care services on 1 July 2011.

“The City will work closely with CFI to ensure a smooth handover of the services, with little change felt by the clients.”

CFI will meet with staff and volunteers, to introduce themselves and answer any questions. The City has written to all volunteers, staff and clients explaining the appointment.
