Film Screenings to Recognise a Lost Generation

Published Date: 01 December 2009, 10:35 AM

The City of Melville, in conjunction with Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia (DADAA), invites locals to attend one of two free film screenings in the City on Wednesday, 2 December and Friday, 4 December 2009, which evolved from the Lost Generation Project.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the screenings were in honour of International Day of People with Disability, which was celebrated worldwide on 3 December each year. “A joint initiative between DADAA and the Disability Services Commission’s Accommodation Services Directorate, the Lost Generation Project was established so adults with intellectual disabilities could become more involved in the community through arts and cultural activities,” he said.

“Now the project in Melville has been completed, Lost Generation Project participants and their support workers are continuing to develop community relationships by sharing their filmed stories in a variety of settings.”

“The City of Melville, in partnership with the Lost Generation Project, has helped find these unique local people and provided them with the technology and skills to tell their stories on film,” he said. “I encourage City of Melville residents and visitors alike, to attend one of the film screenings and to celebrate the achievements of people with a disability and the contributions they make to our community.”

Films created by Lost Generation Project participants will be screened at Willagee Community Centre, Archibald Street, Willagee from 9.30am to 11.00am on Wednesday, 2 December 2009 and at Stockland Bull Creek Shopping Centre, South Street, Bull Creek from 10.00am to noon on Friday, 4 December 2009. Those interested in attending the screening in Willagee are asked to RSVP to 9364 0848. RSVPs are not required for the screening in Bull Creek.
