The City of Melville announced today (Wednesday, 23 March 2011) it had been successful in obtaining a Federal Government grant of $143,000 for the refurbishment of the Kadidjiny Park Hall (formerly the old library) in Melville.

The funding comes from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).

Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “The City is very pleased to receive a generous grant for this important project.”

“City employees developed a concept plan in consultation with the lessees of the building, the MORE Community Group Inc. The concept plan was on display at the opening of Kadidjiny Park and includes new kitchen facilities, improved storage and new flooring.

“The Kadidjiny Park Hall will serve as a vital community resource which all can enjoy.“

“This upgrade of the community centre will be a wonderful enhancement of the Kadidjiny Park precinct, an area that has in only a few short months become a bustling hub of activity because of its excellent, and broadly-appealing design,” said Melissa Parke, the Federal Labor Member for Fremantle.

“It is fantastic to see the former public primary school library restored as a public facility that will serve the local community for many years to come,” said Ms Parke.

Once the refurbishment is complete the Kadidjiny Park Hall will be managed by the MORE Community Group and available for hire for community activities, meetings and other events.

A detailed design is nearing completion after which the City will proceed to tender for the works. The works must be completed by December 2011.
