Doggy Dos Mount Up As City Says “Enough”
Inconsiderate dog owners are being asked to “take responsibility” by the City of Melville after Rangers received numerous complaints about the amount of dog faeces found in parks and on public road verges.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “All residents deserve to enjoy the City’s beautiful parklands.”
“I realise that most dog owners are doing the right thing and I thank them for their courtesy and respect of their fellow residents. Unfortunately some dog owners’ inconsiderate behaviour is spoiling our parks.
“Dog owners are required to pick up after their dogs during exercise times on public land. Failure to do so can incur a $100.00 on-the-spot fine.”
Dog faeces can cause major health problems to the community through bacterial and parasitic diseases and can also pose problems for the City of Melville maintenance staff as they attempt to cut lawn around trees, shrubs and light poles.
All dog owners should be aware there are special dog excreta bins with plastic pooch pouches attached at more than 200 locations within the City.
