CSS Sells Safety Message to Shoppers in October

The City of Melville’s Community Safety and Security (CSS) Service will play a part in making the community safer throughout October, as part of RAC Community Safety Month.

Through posters, banners, brochures and an information stall at Stocklands Shopping Centre, in Bull Creek, the CSS will encourage residents to get involved in activities that help to reduce violence, crime, injuries and emergencies in the community.

Mayor Katherine Jackson said Community Safety Month was important as it sent a strong message to the community about safety, security and crime prevention. “It’s everyone’s responsibility to report crime and violence in the community,” she said.  “Creating awareness can help reduce anti-social behaviour, vandalism and violence as well as making people aware of health and safety issues.”

RAC Community Safety Month is a State Government initiative that raises awareness of crime prevention, road safety, emergency services, injury prevention, water safety and work safety.

CSS Business Manager Ashok Mehra said the City of Melville and CSS were promoting the safety and security message during October through advertising and education. “The City of Melville will help to educate people about safety and security issues in the community through various forms of advertising around the area,” he said. “Neighbourhood Watch volunteers will also man the stall at Garden City and discuss safety and security tips with the public.”

The CSS attends more than 200 incidents per week, providing security to residents of the City of Melville and City of Cockburn.
