CSS Patrol Officers Awarded Certificate III in Security Operations
A group of 10 City of Melville Community Safety Service (CSS) Patrol Officers will ensure a Safer Melville after being awarded their Certificate III in Security Operations by the Challenger Institute of Technology today (Wednesday, 11 May).
The certificates were presented by the Challenger Institute of Technology Director of Defence and Resource Industries Training Greg Guppy. The tailor-made course spanned a six month period with the achievement supporting higher levels of competency and quality service.
Acting-Chief Executive Officer John Christie said, “Over the years, the City of Melville has sought feedback from residents to determine primary concerns and visions for the future. One popular vision identified was that of a Safer Melville.”
“Several methods were deployed to achieve this goal such as: the Holiday Watch Service; Hot Spot Patrolling and measures to strengthen our relationship with Police to ensure intelligence is accurate.
“However, as with any service, the key to effective delivery is the staff. We already had a group of highly committed service representatives so the next step was to ensure they received the next level of training to make sure they are capable of delivering the highest possible level of quality service.
“After several meetings with the Challenger Institute of Technology a training package was developed. The nationally-accredited Certificate III in Security Operations was modified to ensure it was relevant to our Service and the needs of our residents.
“In November 2010 CSS Officers commenced training. Over the course of six months, staff continuously demonstrated their commitment by completing assignments in their own time and a Challenger Institute of Technology facilitator regularly visited all participants in the workplace to provide tuition and support.”
Mr Christie said the accreditation would strengthen the City’s endeavour to provide Melville residents with a quality service, as well as providing a massive step forward in the provision of its commitment to a Safer Melville.
“I congratulate the CSS Patrol Officers on their impressive achievement,” he said.
