CSS Patrol Officer Attends ATM Grab

The City of Melville’s Community Safety Service (CSS) assisted Palmyra Police in the early hours of Tuesday, 1 March 2011 at the scene of an attempt to steal an ATM machine at Applecross Village on Ardross Street.

It is one of the many examples of the cooperative working relationship between the City’s CSS and Police.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “At around 2.00am the City’s CSS control room was alerted to a report of tyres squealing and breaking glass at the Applecross Village.”

“A CSS Patrol Officer first confirmed that Police had been contacted and then drove to the  site within five minutes.

“The CSS Patrol Officer observed that the front glass of a shop had been smashed and an attempt had been made to steal the ATM.

“Police had already detained three suspects in a stolen vehicle. On further investigation of the site, the CSS Patrol Officer found possible information linking the suspect vehicle to the scene of the crime and notified the Police.

Mayor Aubrey said the incident was an excellent example of the liaison role that CSS Patrol Officers play.

“I commend the CSS Patrol Officer who quickly responded to the call and provided the Police with important information at the scene of the crime,” he said.

“The CSS is proud of its close working relationship with Police and is committed to its vision of a Safer Melville,” he said.

Fremantle Detective’s Senior Sergeant Michael Rowson said, “The CSS Patrol officers play a very important role in assisting Police to identify suspicious persons or vehicles in the area and they help provide the community with a sense of security knowing their areas are being patrolled by both Police and CSS officers.”

For all criminal matters always call the Police on 131 444.
