City’s Storm Recovery a Big Success
The City of Melville has labelled a storm recovery operation within the municipality a big success, after dramatic weather hit Perth on Monday 22 March 2010.
Dangerous branches, tree removal, collapsed ceilings, flooding and electrical issues were some of the hundreds of tasks which required urgent attention by the City.
Chief Executive Officer Dr Shayne Silcox commended both City employees and the State Emergency Services (SES) for their efficient response to the natural disaster, which included implementation of a Local Recovery Plan.
“My commendation must go to the SES for coordinating this recovery so professionally and to City of Melville employees for reacting so swiftly,” he said.
“The dangerous issues were quickly resolved and now the clean up is underway including street sweeping, drainage repairs and cleaning. This initial clean-up phase will be finished in a matter of days but we do expect the full recovery to take at least a fortnight.”
The City is expecting a general increase in volume for greenwaste collection as residents clean up their damages. The next greenwaste collection service is due in each suburb from late March. Residents are able to view their collection date or by phoning 1300 635 845.
The Weighbridge and Green Waste Facility at the Regional Resource Recovery Centre in Canning Vale will be open from 8.00am – 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays to receive green waste only until further notice.
Residents are reminded that the SES are the key point of contact for anyone requesting assistance with their private property on phone 132 500.
