City’s Seniors Invited to Create Mural Magic

Published Date: 04 July 2008, 11:03 AM

Melville Seniors are invited to get their creative juices flowing at a free mural art workshop on Tuesday, 22 July.

The workshop, which will be held at the Southern Districts Senior Citizens Centre from 10.30am to 12.30pm, will give 10 lucky participants an opportunity to learn useful artistic techniques from highly talented artists David Garland and Drew Straker.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said that it was important for all age groups, including seniors to have an input into urban art.  “Melville seniors will have an opportunity to embrace and explore their creativity during the mural workshop,” he said. “They will also get to suggest ideas, select colour schemes and learn techniques such as painting on a large scale.”

Artists David Garland and Drew Straker will take the seniors through their paces during the two-hour workshop before helping them to produce a vibrant and exciting mural at the senior citizens centre.

The Southern Districts Senior Citizens Centre is looking for anyone who might be interested in taking part in the workshop and encourages them to enrol before Monday, 7 July to reserve their place.  Grandchildren are also welcome to take part with their grandparents.
