City’s New Exhibition to Illuminate Heathcote

Published Date: 05 November 2009, 12:00 AM

The latest exhibition at the City of Melville’s Heathcote Museum and Gallery is to showcase new ceramic works by vibrant exhibiting group ‘Clay Feet’. Luminance – to run from 14 November to 20 December 2009 – will be the group’s second exhibition at Heathcote Gallery.

Now in its eighth year, Clay Feet has long been recognised for its innovative approach to creating work by hand with clay. The Clay Feet members exhibiting in Luminance are Jillian Archibald, Elaine Bradley, Sheryl Chant, Alyson Hayes, Veronica McGrath, Gill Treichel and Andrea Vinkovic.

The title reflects the range of nuances 'luminance' can encompass, as diverse as the work to be shown. The exhibits will include bone china lamps, wheel-thrown porcelain, raku fired figurative work, glowing porcelain hanging sculptures and printed imagery on clay.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said Clay Feet had been actively involved in projects, exhibitions and conferences throughout Australia, with many of its artists represented in state and regional galleries. “The exhibiting group brings together diverse and talented local artists, with the purpose of promoting ceramic arts in a modest form to the wider audience,” he said.

Curator Soula Veyradier said this exhibition promised to give a great insight into what was happening in ceramic art today, with some of the most innovative approaches to clay on display. “Clay can be moulded in such ways as to become something totally unexpected. Gallery visitors will be able to appreciate diverse objects ranging from the whimsical to the compelling. No doubt they will have trouble deciding which piece to take home,” she said.

Luminance is to be opened by Central TAFE Manager, Art Portfolio Creative Industries Digby de Bruin at 6.30pm on Friday, 13 November 2009.

Heathcote Museum and Gallery is located on Duncraig Road, in Applecross. The gallery is open 10.00am to 3.00pm Tuesday to Friday and 11.00am to 3.00pm Saturday and Sunday. Phone 9364 5666.
